Miller's Ponds

Miller's Ponds has always been one of those spots that we always just seemed to use as a goof-off point on the way to and from the East End. Located in between a couple of discharge ponds on private ground and the dunes, its a shady areas that sort of draws you there on a hot summer day. Some years, when there is plenty of water (not for some years now) there is actually a pond on the dune side. There are some pretty fun trails going east and west that are comprised of small, continuous, northeast flowing dunes. You can expect a drop-off on the north-northeast side of every dune and the trip southwest can be a blast with plenty of air to be caught! However, you can find some pretty tame paths throughout this area and its a great place to take the kids and family.

CAUTION: There are jagged lava rock pockets (mostly in the dunes north and northwest of this area), so do not jump over anything that you cannot see the other side of or have not jumped over before.

Lots of shade with trails that meander in and out of the sage and dunes. The day that these pics were taken there were a couple of fires in southwest Idaho and northern Nevada. (Fire season is usually most intense from about July to August and it can get pretty smokey some days.)

Looking west, there are a couple of trails that lead west to the big dunes.

Looking northeast the dunes form a fun little trail to the SandHills Resort and the Red Road Parking Area.

The SHR is just over the last dunes on the right side of the picture.

You can just barely make out the treetops of the SHR just right of center in this picture.
