August 11

An awesome August morning on the St. Anthony Sand Dunes.

One of the best things about sand is that a little wind wipes out a lot of tracks. August 10th brought a much needed windstorm that left the SA Dunes a "clean slate". I was out enjoying the baby-smooth sand and looking for some photo opportunities when I topped a dune and found Shannon Butz (hope I spelled that right) sitting in his rail and just soaking it all in. Shannon is a totally laid-back "old school" duner and rail builder from Utah. He and some friends were taking a break from Little Sahara and taking advantage of the awsome conditions at St. Anthony. We hooked up for a while and carved some new tracks up and down the Highway. The red rail in these pics was built by Shannon and I was told it had rolled a half dozen times down down Choke the day before. I was promised some video of it and will try to get it posted here. Anyway, it's a really hoot hangin' out with these guys and I'm hoping to get to ride with these dudes again sometime soon. The pics in the lower rows are of some other duners just soaking up all the smooth sailin'.
