Seems that Idaho's St. Anthony Sand Dunes attract more wild-eyed fanatics than just ATV'ers, Motos, and Railers. I had no idea that this sport existed until I recieved an email just the other day. I just have to say that this looks AWSOME! Where do I sign up?
Hello there Ratt, and once again, thank you for hosting the DuneRatt Web Site. Having an online connection to this great place is really nice. You've done a great job at developing an easy to use web site with lots of great info. Saint Anthony Dunes are never far from my mind, a personal obsession, one that really gets to me sometimes. My reason for obsessing about the dunes is because I'm a snowkiter. I use skis (some guys use snowboards) connected to large-sized traction kites to move around (and above) on the snow. Last winter I was successful on two occasions in making it down to the dunes and kiting 'em. The winter before, my first trips there, I was skunked by no wind three times. Now I go to the Sugar City weather link to get local wind conditions. Snowkiting at the dunes is awesome. The terrain just has no comparison to any other place I know of. When snow covered and windy, the bowls, cornices, wind lips and ridges become an unparalled playground for ripping up the snow and boosting air. The few photos I have do not really illustrate the insane terrain that the dunes offer. I suspect you know what I mean though; ATV use of the dunes must provide the same feeling of craziness! While I'm only three hours away up here in Bozeman, getting down there when there is snow on the dunes and while the wind is blowing (like today) is difficult. I'm ready though to bust out and make the drive, as soon as I can. I know that after the first of January, 90% of the dunes closes to all human use... ... Thanks again for the website and I'll really try and get some sick pics this winter. Noah P. Bozeman, MT |
