The central and focal point for the entire dune area, this first of the "large" dunes was first climbed by a human on a motorcycle in the late sixties by Lyndon "Mummy" Crapo thus being tagged with the moniker "Crapo's Hill". From that time on, Crapo's has been the jumping - off point for many a moto ride. (Most of these pics were taken after some very wet weather so the sand is not quite as smooth as it usually is.)
(Click for an aerial view of Crapos)

Looking at the north side of Crapo's from the top of the smaller dune to the east. On the other side of the "run hill" is Grassy where its very popular to race to the top and back down.
This is the view from the Run Hill on the south side of Crapo's looking up. Crapo's gets a regular "chewing" these days.

From the top of the Run Hill looking at the BLM campground and parking across the lake.

Some duners from Montana doing the Run Hill jump. Its a pretty easy jump to launch off of but you run out of room in a hurry if you're an extreme jumper.
Not bad.....
The top of Crapo's looking southeast. The crest is usually a lot sharper but the weather has made it less steep and rough. You can see the the trail from the parking lot in the background and some slobbering, rabid, dune ratts in the foreground.
The top of Crapo's looking northwest. One spun down.
Looking down Grassy (the north side of Crapo's) from the top. The whoops aren't too bad today.

Jumping on the Run Hill.

Climbing Grassy. Some caine...some cain't.
